Ships Worldwide Welcome

Ships Worldwide was set up by Lorraine and Bob Fildes in 2007 to produce books and CD's on ships and shipping, provide photos of all types of vessels and carry out ship research.

About the Directors

Robert (Bob) Fildes was born in the U.K., where he obtained an economics degree at the University of Kingston-upon-Hull , Yorkshire , in 1968.  Shortly after graduation he emigrated to Australia , where he has lived ever since and is a naturalized Australian.

In Australia Bob Fildes worked for the N.S.W. Government in the Ministry of Transport and subsequently as a technical college teacher in Sydney , where he was scriptwriter and consultant for several educational films, including “Ships and Cargoes”. Bob has previously published a number of shipping books e.g. “The Ships that serve Australia and New Zealand ”, as well as being the editor for some years of the Sydney Heritage Fleet quarterly magazine “Australian Sea Heritage”. He also supplies ship photos for use in some well known U.K. ship reference publications.

A lifelong interest in all kinds of ships has provided the basis for the marine book and CD's. All the photos in the book and CD's are by Bob Fildes unless otherwise stated.

Lorraine Fildes was born in Australia, where she obtained an arts degree at the University of New South Wales in 1964. Lorraine worked as a Science teacher for the Department of School Education and Training where she was involved in writing and editing material for Distance Education. She has always had a keen interest in travel and this travelling is now done by ship.
